Aurora Spider Control

Which Spiders Are You Most Likely to Find in Chicagoland Homes?
Here is a quick guide to common spider species in our area:
- Common house spiders are small and tannish-brown with mottled markings. They build irregular webs in ceiling corners and around window frames, then abandon them and rebuild nearby. That habit is why webs seem to multiply even after you clean.
- Cellar spiders or “daddy long legs” have a small, pale body and long, thin legs. This harmless species prefers damp, undisturbed spaces like basements, crawlspaces, and garages. They build loose, messy webs and rarely leave the lower level of a home.
- Wolf spiders can reach well over an inch in size, are brown with dark markings, and move quickly across floors. They don’t build webs at all. Instead, they hunt on the ground and wander indoors from the yard, which is why you usually find them in the open.
- Grass or funnel weavers are brown, striped spiders that build flat sheet webs with a funnel-shaped retreat at one end. We often find them concentrated in window wells, along foundation lines, and at the edges of lawns and landscaping.
- Orb weavers build large circular webs across porches, eaves, and deck railings in late summer. They are orange or brown in color and can look substantial at full size. Since this beneficial outdoor species feeds on flying insects, we treat them selectively to protect your space without losing natural benefits.
One of the most common misidentifications we correct is a wolf spider mistaken for a brown recluse. Brown recluse spiders are rarely encountered in Northern Illinois.
If you’re not sure what type of spider you found, don’t hesitate to contact our experts for swift guidance. We can identify the species and provide straightforward recommendations to help you reclaim your home.
Signs of Spider Activity in Northern Illinois Homes
Spiders are great at hiding, but frequently leave clues behind as their populations grow. Knowing what to look for can stop a small infestation from spreading.
